You’re a Good Guy

Back in 97 or so after high school,

I knew this girl young and so beautiful 

Getting to know her wasn’t so easy I must tell ya

But I won her heart, eventually, yay!

The chemistry, biology, you name them courses

I thought we were in love - well for one I was

We were happy and the communication seemed superb

What could go wrong, you know we didn’t meet in a pub!

Then one morning, with nothing special to it man

I got a text from her and thought it’s the usual ‘good morning hun’

“Mentor I love you so much, you’re like a brother to me …

But you’re a good guy you’ll find someone soon.”

There was a time I lost my track

And tried the bad boy mark

I was good at it too but deep down I just knew

This just ain’t me, it’s not the thread I was sewn

Mentor you’re a good guy I say to calm my nerve

If you’re just a little more patient maybe

Your good girl will arrive

And make you forget all those who wanted to be

So years down the line

Arrived home this noon

To the thought of the good guy

Still waiting for someone who will say 

“Mentor you’re a good guy”

- and actually stay to enjoy this good guy
